Meet Keith Byrd
My name is Keith Byrd, and I’m a candidate for Cumberland County Board of Education At Large.
As a retired army officer, most recently the provost marshal (police chief) of Fort Bragg, As a military police officer of 22 years, I have had the distinct privilege of leading men and women through some of the most challenging and noteworthy events of their lives. From the combat zone of Iraq to law enforcement contingency operations here on Fort Bragg, I successfully managed personnel, logistics, operations and training while maintaining high unit morale. I’ve earned the reputation as a leader who listens with an open mind, and one who sacrifices his personal interests for the benefit of others.
In addition to being a graduate of Seventy-First High School, and a father of 3 sons who have all attended Cumberland County Schools, I am a candidate who currently teaches in Cumberland County Schools. For the past three years, I have been awarded the Teacher Legislated Performance Bonus for being in the top 25% of teachers in the State/County for exceeding student growth in math, while also meeting/exceeding growth in reading over the same period.
As a current teacher, I know first-hand the many rewards and the numerous challenges that come with working in today’s demanding school setting. I am therefore in the unique position to ensure voters get a real sense of today’s school climate and the issues that concern our children and community.
I look forward to bringing my leadership and managerial skills to the Cumberland County Board of Education. Mission first, people always.
